As the name suggests, Acholiland is being re-born after it had been plunged into a terrible civil strife for over two decades.

Many people were displaced from their villages and were forced to stay in internally displaced people's camps .

A peace deal by the LRA and the government of Uganda was reached though not signed in 2008. The ceasefire that had been agreed upon was a stepping stone to the advent of peace to northern Uganda. Although armed conflict has resurrected, northern Uganda is still safe from the madness experienced 23 years before. This is so because the insurgents have switched locations- they have moved into parts of southern Sudan.eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and to the Central African Republic.

Many challenges still lie ahead of these returnees as they try to fully recover from the effects of the war.
one such challenge is education. As the war raged on, ways of keeping alive was a priority. In this case what mattered was just basic necessities. Children of school-going age went to school but others did not.



Many reasons can be attached to their failure to go to school. But one obvious reason is their parents' inability to finance their schooling. All is not the same now. Many a good parent are now able to get some few coins to send their children to school - rebirth.

• Another challenge that people faced was abscence of food. This came about for many reasons too.Some of them being: living too far away from the land to cultivate, fear of the fighters who could mistake one and finish one's life etc,etc. People relied on distributed food by World Food Programme.
